Urological health is important for women, just as it is for men. However, many women may feel apprehensive about visiting a urologist due to the personal nature of the questions and examinations that may take place. Dr. Nicole Szell, a board-certified urologist with Advanced Urology Institute, addresses this concern and emphasizes the importance of open communication between patients and urologists in Palm Harbor, FL.
Understanding the Role of a Urologist
Urologists are medical professionals who specialize in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of urinary tract and reproductive system disorders in both men and women. Some common urological issues women may face include urinary incontinence, recurrent urinary tract infections, and interstitial cystitis. A visit to the urologist can help identify the root cause of these problems and provide appropriate treatment options.
Preparing for Personal Questions
Dr. Szell acknowledges that women may be caught off guard by the personal questions a urologist might ask. It’s essential to remember that these questions are intended to help the doctor understand your situation better and provide the most effective treatment. Topics such as sexual activity, pain, urinary habits, and other bodily functions may be discussed. Rest assured, these conversations are confidential, and your urologist is genuinely invested in your well-being.
Building Trust with Your Urologist
Trust is crucial when discussing sensitive topics with your healthcare provider. Dr. Szell emphasizes the importance of feeling comfortable and able to confide in your doctor. Despite the challenges that may arise with insurance companies or pharmacies, your urologist’s primary goal is to help you feel better, improve your quality of life, and address your health-related concerns.

TRANSCRIPTION:
Hi, I’m Dr. Nicole Zell, I’m a board certified urologist with Advanced Urology Institute.
I think that a lot of women when they come in they’re not prepared for the questions
that I’m going to ask them because I’m going to ask them some invasive questions about
sex and pain and urine and bodily functions and oh my gosh are we really talking about
that but what women should understand is yes we are talking about that and we should
talk about that and whatever we talk about is confidential and it’s not going to get
you know I’m not you know putting this in a note to your family doctor necessarily I’m
just here to try to figure out what we can do to help you the most and so you should
feel like your doctor is someone you can confide in and I think that’s very important and it
should still feel that way.
In this day and age I know there’s a lot of issues with pharmacies and with insurance
companies but your doctor is still here for you first and foremost to make you feel better
to improve your quality of life and to do whatever we can to help your health related
issues.
